WATCH what you WATCH

Firstly, I just want to say that the things that I say on my blog are my opinion based on what I know. I am always open to conversations and debates and welcome anyone that would like to do so.

Formalities out of the way!

I've been putting it off for a while but I just watched "The Great Hack" on Netflix (no this is not an advert for them) and was just shocked to the extent that we have to really have to think about the information that we are exposed, as well as the information and data that is out there on us.

I'm sure all of us have that moment where you are talking about a product or something and the next you know, you are looking at your Insta feed and there is an advert of the exact thing that you was talking about. The information out there on us is so specific and of high quality, in abundance that these algorithms can predict your life's wants and needs to be able to advertise what you are talking about.

Now that is something to think about. There is AI out there that can predict what we need to see or want to see based on our search history, buying habits, friends in common, interest, etc. The list goes on to be able to predict your life.

Right, based on that information can be used to manipulate you to vote in politics one way or another. Adverts are targetted to people that have not made up their minds to which way they sway to vote. But these adverts are fake news that can not be traced to a specific source. This was done with Trump's campaign against Hilary believe it or not.

I'm not going to go into the case around this and the fight behind it, but you have to ask the question of what you expose yourself to and, if you have children, what they are exposed too as well.

The main point I am trying to get across is not to believe everything you see. If you are one of those people that are on Facebook and Instagram all the time, just be aware of the things you are exposed to. I would also encourage people to watch "The Great Hack" on Netflix just because I find the whole thing interesting and makes you think about the situation and the rights we have over our own data and the way it's used.
